Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University College of Engineering Hyderabad (Autonomous), formerly known as Nagarjuna Sagar Engineering College, was established in 1965 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and administrated under the control of the Department of Technical Education and affiliated to Osmania University, Hyderabad. With the formation of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University(JNTU) on 2nd October 1972, the college was made as a constituent college of the University and eventually renamed as JNTU College of Engineering, Hyderabad.
The college activities are observed and supported by the budgetary allocations from the State Government. Specific grants from various funding agencies such as UGC, MHRD, AICTE, DST, DRDO are also sought from time to time for the development of the college. The college has received funds from Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP) - A World Bank-Aided Project. The college celebrated its Silver Jubilee mark in 1990.
The infrastructure development in the past two decades in the college has been substantial. Presently the college has eight Engineering Departments viz Civil Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering and Chemical Engineering and four Sciences and Humanities Departments (Maths, Physics, Chemistry and HSS).
Hostel and library blocks were constructed with a motive avail added facilities to students. The college library is a diverse repository of Books, Print Journals and Digital Journals. It also holds subscription to over 50 exclusive Journals every year.
The Industrial Consultancy Unit of the college is highly active in offering the expertise of the staff in various fields like Structural Engineering and Geotechnical Engineering Survey, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. All the departments are equipped with modern computing facilities to carry out Projects, Research and Development Work in addition to the sophisticated high performance machines and equipment available in specific departments for assisting special objective tasks. The 24x7 Centralized Computer Centre secured with biometric entry is accessible by students and staff round the clock all through the 365 days of the year inclusive of holidays. Proprietary softwares associated with every branch of study are housed here for supporting research and interest works of students and staff.
The 3 boys hostel blocks namely Manjeera, Kinnera and Gowthami provide shelter and mess facilities for 1200 boys along with 3 hostel blocks for girls namely Kamala Nehru, Saraswathi and Gayathri providing accommodation for 900 girls. Further on campus there are facilities such as Banks, Post Office, Canteen, Health Centre, Guest House, Sports complex, Auditorium.
The student branch of IEEE(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering) functions actively along side ISTE(Indian Society for Technical Education) Chapter. The college also has a NSS (National Social Service) unit. A total of 420 students are admitted into various graduation courses along with 360 students for post graduation courses every year. Good percentage of students gets placed every year in multiple MNCs via Campus Placements.
The Faculty Members of the college highly qualified with Doctoral and Masters degrees also guides Research Programmes. Apart from the academic activities, the College is conducting extensive research activities and offering industrial consultancy services to various Government and Private Organizations.
The College is well connected by RTC Bus and Metro Service from various parts of the city.
