Achievements

The students, faculty and graduates of the physics department have been awarded a huge range of accolades since it first opened its doors. Since 1965, the department’s alumni, faculty, and research staff have been creating new fields of study and products, starting companies, and going on to careers in academia and industry. They have been the focus of exhibits, and have won prestigious awards. As well as being ranked as the prestigious department in the country for many years by various companies; the department of physics is renowned for its research achievements among other things. Many more of the staff, at the department have earned some of the highest academic accolades over their time. Students and graduates have also done very well in the areas of literature. Outside of academics, the department has received many awards in the world of sport. Students at physics department are notoriously competitive and several of the varsity teams are some of the best in the country and even the world. Over the years, the graduates, students and staff of the department have made a huge contribution to the world of business, medicine, law, economics and more. As we mentioned before, some of the India’s most influential political leaders have graduated from the physics department. In a world where radical advances in science and technology are taken for granted the researchers of the department design technologies for people to create a better future. The department came into being in 1965 through the efforts of Professor Vijay Kumar and Professor Rama Rao Pawar and few others. The department grew out of the work of the departments Architecture Machine Group, and remains within the JNTUH College Engineering.

The department opened the doors to its present building in 1985, and in its first decade was at the vanguard of the science that enabled the research revolution and enhanced the development: innovative research ranging from cognition and learning, to Fiber Optics, to electronics, to Communication and to holography. In its second decade, the department literally took computing, embedding the bits of the digital realm with the atoms of our physical world. This led to expanded research in optical communications, machines with common sense, new forms of artistic expression, and innovative approaches. Now, in its fifth decade, department continues to check traditional disciplines. Product designers, nanotechnologists, data-visualization experts, industry researchers, and pioneers of computer interfaces work side by side to invent—and reinvent—how humans experience, and can be aided by, technology.

Many of our students qualified National Eligibility Test for Lectureship conducted by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), ministry of human resource and development, Govt. of India, and qualified Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). It is a combined national level entrance test conducted by all the IITs for entrance in Ph.D. courses. What can be more interesting and exciting than exploring the structure of the nature around, and for that it requires the combination of formal theory and experimental activity. For many students, entry into the hallowed walls of JNTUH is a dream in itself. But for some, it is just the first step to creating unthinkable success stories. From top-notch CEOs to famous scientists, from young entrepreneurs to quirky entertainers, successful departmental alumni have inspired generations of students.

Across the Indian start-up sector, there’s a growing network of alumni from some of the best-known institutions in India. The students of department have taken University by a storm in the past few years and managed to make a mark in almost every profession can be thought of under the sun.
