The Department of Chemistry at JNTUH College of Engineering, Science & Technology Hyderabad (JNTUH UCESTH) has a distinguished legacy that traces its roots to the establishment of Nagarjuna Sagar Engineering College in 1965. Following its transformation into a constituent college of the newly formed Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) in 1972, the department became a cornerstone of the institution. In 2008, with the formation of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH) as an autonomous university, the department further solidified its reputation as a vital academic and research unit.
The department offers a diverse portfolio of academic programs, including two-year full-time postgraduate programs with specializations in Drugs & Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry, alongside core undergraduate courses in Engineering Chemistry, Environmental Science, and specialized courses for B.Tech I yr (all branches) & B. Tech Chemical Engineering (I & II Years).
Our faculty comprises a dedicated team of highly qualified professionals actively engaged in cutting-edge research in areas such as Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Spectroscopy, Inorganic Metal Complexes, Analytical Chemistry, and Natural Products with Biological Significance. The department has consistently secured funding from premier agencies like CSIR and UGC, enabling impactful research and innovation. Notably, a 2015 survey by Current Science Journal ranked the department among India’s top-performing institutions in organic chemistry research from 2004–2014, affirming its leadership in the field.
The Department of Chemistry fosters a vibrant academic culture, encouraging students to engage in activities that go beyond traditional learning. The Chemistry Association serves as a platform for debates, group discussions, and the exploration of innovative chemical methodologies. Students are actively motivated to participate in national and international conferences and to pursue prestigious fellowships such as DST-INSPIRE, CSIR, UGC, and others.
We are proud to collaborate with leading organizations like Eurofins Advinus, offering hands-on training in advanced analytical techniques such as Gas Chromatography (GC) and High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). These initiatives aim to enhance skill development and provide placement opportunities for our postgraduate students and research scholars.
Beyond academics and research, the department maintains robust partnerships with the chemical industry, government agencies, and global research institutions. These collaborations ensure the alignment of our academic programs with industrial needs and create pathways for transformative research. Additionally, the department is committed to outreach activities, promoting science education and awareness within the community, and inspiring the next generation of scientists.
